I’m happy to report another Buy Local RI (www.buylocalri.org) success story: Modulus Furniture in Pawtucket has entered into an agreement with Cardi’s Furniture, which plans to begin carrying Modulus products in all their stores by mid-September.
Last May as part of my Main Street tours of area small businesses, I visited the manufacturing site and showroom of Modulus—which specializes in stylish upholstered sofas and chairs for hard-to-fit spaces—and helped foster the new relationship with Cardi’s.
I helped open the door, but Modulus’ outstanding products closed the deal; Modulus even uses local suppliers for items such as wood and steel needed to produce the furniture, thereby supporting other Rhode Island businesses.
This is the type of scenario I hoped to create when I launched Buy Local RI last year to expand business opportunities for local independent businesses, thus bolstering the state economy. National studies have established that 50 percent more of each dollar spent in a locally owned business remains in, and sustains, the local economy than a dollar spent elsewhere.
I’m so pleased that Cardi’s will be showcasing a local manufacturer, and my congratulations to Modulus. Buy Local RI!
